Title: The Young Musicians Project

Title: Our Goal

To present young musicians in our area to the community. Schools, colleges, universities and clubs often don't reach audiences beyond their doors. We hope to widen that circle and introduce emerging artists to a broader audience.

For this purpose we are setting up a series of "Young Musicians" concerts at various locations throughout the summer and early fall.

Young musicians need the professional experience of performing in public, and part of that experience is getting paid for their work.

Musicians are often asked to provide free entertainment, in spite of their long and costly training. Yet musicians have bills to pay, too, and other professionals are not working for free. Musicians have to learn this lesson early on.

Through a partnership between the Music Performance Trust Fund (MPF) and a local co-sponsor. MPF is an organization that gives matching funds to live music performances under the following conditions:

The performance(s) must be free and open to the public. The Musicians play for Local Union Scale. The focus of the event must be on the music.

Through MPF we have matching funds of 50% of the musicians' wages. The other 50% have to be covered by the co-sponsor. MPF co-sponsor cost is fully tax deductible. MPF also has a blanket agreement with ASCAP, so issues of ASCAP fees don't arise.

Title: Help Us

You can become a co-sponsor, offer a venue to do both, bring this project to the attention of other possible co-sponsors and venues, be a "Talent Scout" -- maybe you know a great young band we haven't heard of.

Please contact us Monday through Friday from 12:00 to 4:00 pm at 484 0951 or e-mail to violetta@afm689.org. We'd love to hear from you!
